John 9:1-23, Translation

Καὶ παράγων εἶδεν ἄνθρωπον τυφλὸν ἐκ γενετῆς.  And as he passed by he saw a blind man from birth. τυφλὸν ἐκ γενετῆς well known phrase among Greek writers here only in NT
 καὶ ἠρώτησαν αὐτὸν οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ λέγοντες· 
ῥαββείτίς ἥμαρτενοὗτος  οἱ γονεῖς αὐτοῦ
Jesus Heals a Blind Man,

ἵνα τυφλὸς γεννηθῇ; And he asked his disciples saying, "Rabbi, who sinned, this one or his parents?" The use of goneis forms our modern word (1880) gonad. 
ἀπεκρίθηἸησοῦς· οὔτε οὗτος ἥμαρτεν 
οὔτε οἱ γονεῖς αὐτοῦἀλλ’ ἵνα φανερωθῇ 
τὰ ἔργα τοῦ θεοῦ ἐναὐτῷ. Jesus answered, "Neither this one sinned nor his parents, but in order  that the works of God may be seen(revealed, made manifest) in him." phanerothe is before the subject works.
ἡμᾶς δεῖ ἐργάζεσθαι τὰ ἔργα τοῦ πέμψαντός 
μἕ ἕως ἡμέρα ἐστίν· ἔρχεται νὺξ ὅτε οὐδεὶς 
δύναται ἐργάζεσθαι.  We must work the works of the one who sent me while it is day. Night comes when no one is able to work.   Variant reading here is over the "We" or "I" and "us" and "me". Seems to be much division. Metzger gives it a C. KJV does not like the We but likes the me. I like the enclusiveness of Christ here. Little mention of the dark except Jesus is the light of the world. Next verse interprets it. Bultman likes the I .... me. Says Christians added the other. Chapter xi gives many 1st person plural verbs. The "we" is a slight problem in that John has not mentioned the disciples since chapter xi. maybe these are the Judeanian disciples of chapter 8 (Brown p.372)
ὅταν ἐν τῷ κόσμῳ φῶς εἰμι τοῦ κόσμου.  Whenever I am being in the world, I am light to the world (of the world). Latin quamdiu and therefore the KJV translate this word hotan as "as long as I am in the world. But straight translation and confirmation from Robertson and possible Westcott translate this "whenever' signifying other advents of Christ.  
ταῦτα εἰπὼν ἔπτυσεν χαμαὶ καὶ ἐποίησεν 
πηλὸν ἐκ τοῦ πτύσματοςκαὶ ἐπέχρισεν 
αὐτοῦ τὸν πηλὸν ἐπὶ τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς,  After saying these things, he spit on the ground and made clay out of the spital, and anointed his eyes with the clay. Robertson claims that common use for healing eyes was saliva. Clay and spit not that unusual? KJV uses smear instead of anointing.
καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ· ὕπαγε νίψαι 
εἰς τὴν κολυμβήθραν τοῦ Σιλωάμ
(ὃ ἑρμηνεύεται ἀπεσταλμένος.) 
 ἀπῆλθεν οὖν καὶ ἐνίψατοκαὶ ἦλθεν βλέπωνAnd he said to him, "go wash in the pool of Siloam, which is to be interpreted "sent" or "one being sent" He departed therefore and washed and came seeing.  Siloam looks more like Shiloh in the Hebrew. Kolumbethran is like swimming pool. Of course this Siloam is locate south and down steep hill from the Temple mount. It is feed from the Virgin spring? Gihon? connected by Hezekiah's tunnel. "Scholars have said that there wasn't a Pool of Siloam and that John was using a religious conceit" to illustrate a point, said New Testament scholar James H. Charlesworth of the Princeton Theological Seminary. "Now we have found the Pool of Siloam … exactly where John said it was." A gospel that was thought to be "pure theology is now shown to be grounded in history," he said.
Much is being discovered about this pool which was a swimming pool with plaster and step - rather large in Jesus' day.
Οἱ οὖν γείτονες καὶ οἱ θεωροῦντες αὐτὸν 
τὸ πρότερονὅτι προσαίτης ἦν ἔλεγον· 
οὐχ οὗτός ἐστιν  καθήμενος καὶ προσαιτῶν; Therefore the neighbors and those observing him before that was begging said, "Is this not he who was sitting and begging?  Robertson thinks declarative hoti - Westcott thinks because.
 ἄλλοι ἔλεγον ὅτι οὗτός ἐστιν· ἄλλοι ἔλεγον· 
οὐχίἀλλὰ ὅμοιος αὐτῷ ἐστιν.ἐκεῖνος ἔλεγεν 
ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμι. The others said that this is the one. Others said no, but he is similar to him. This one said that I am he. Interesting use of the ego eimi - Is this the same as Jesus said? Or is it I am he?  Emphatic demonstrative this one spoke up.
10 ἔλεγον οὖν αὐτῷ· πῶς οὖν ἠνεῴχθησάν 
σου οἱ ὀφθαλμοί; Therefore they said to him. "[Therefore] how are you eyes opened? Rob. triple augement? open
11 ἀπεκρίθη ἐκεῖνος·  ἄνθρωπος  λεγόμενος 
Ἰησοῦς πηλὸν ἐποίησεν καὶ ἐπέχρισέν μου 
τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς καὶ εἶπέν μοι ὅτι ὕπαγε 
εἰς τὸν Σιλωὰμ καὶ νίψαι· ἀπελθὼν οὖν καὶ νιψάμενος ἀνέβλεψα. This one answered, "A man who is being called Jesus made clay and anointed my eyes and said to me "go to the Siloam and wash. Therefore having gone and washed, I received sight. Originally this verb meant "look up" used so in Matt. 14:19. 
12 εἶπαν αὐτῷ· ποῦ ἔστιν ἐκεῖνος; λέγει· οὐκ οἶδα. They said to him, "Where is he?" He said. "I do not know". 
13 Ἄγουσιν αὐτὸν πρὸς τοὺςΦαρισαίουςτόν ποτε τυφλόν. They bring him to the Pharisees, who was formally blind. Vivid dramatic present active of agoœ
14 ἦν δὲ σάββατον ἐν  ἡμέρᾳ τὸν πηλὸν ἐποίησεν 
 Ἰησοῦς καὶ ἀνέῳξεν αὐτοῦ τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς. And it was a sabbath on the day Jesus  made the clay and opened his eyes.  'a sabbath" no article - anarthorus 
15 πάλιν οὖν ἠρώτων αὐτὸν καὶ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι πῶς ἀνέβλεψεν.
 δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· πηλὸν ἐπέθηκέν μου ἐπὶ τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς
καὶ ἐνιψάμηνκαὶ βλέπω. Therefore again the Pharisees began to asked him also how he received sight.
But this one said to them, "He put clay upon my eyes and I washed and I see. Inchoative (inceptive) imperfect active of eroœtaoœ, “began also to question him.”
16 ἔλεγον οὖν ἐκ τῶν Φαρισαίων τινές· οὐκ ἔστιν οὗτος
 παρὰ θεοῦ  ἄνθρωποςὅτι τὸ σάββατον οὐ τηρεῖ
ἄλλοι ἔλεγον· πῶς δύναται ἄνθρωπος ἁμαρτωλὸς 
τοιαῦτα σημεῖα ποιεῖν; καὶ σχίσμα ἦν ἐν αὐτοῖς. Therefore certain of the Pharisees said," This man is not from God, because he did not keep the Sabbath. Others said, "How is a sinful man able to do these signs?" And a division was among them.  hoti (causal) because
17 λέγουσιν οὖν τῷ τυφλῷ πάλιν· 
σὺ τί λέγεις περὶ αὐτοῦὅτι ἤνοιξέν σου τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς; 
 δὲ εἶπεν ὅτι προφήτης ἐστίν. Therefore they said to the blind (man) again, "Why do you concerning him that he opened your eyes? 
18 οὐκ ἐπίστευσαν οὖν οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι περὶ αὐτοῦ
ὅτι ἦν τυφλὸς καὶ ἀνέβλεψενἕως
ὅτου ἐφώνησαν τοὺς γονεῖς αὐτοῦ 
τοῦ ἀναβλέψαντος, The Jews did not believe therefore concerning him, that he was blind and he received sight, until they called his parents of the one who was blind. ἕως
ὅτου - until - 
19 καὶ ἠρώτησαν αὐτοὺς λέγοντες· οὗτός 
ἐστιν  υἱὸς ὑμῶνὃν ὑμεῖς λέγετε 
ὅτι τυφλὸς ἐγεννήθη; πῶς οὖν βλέπει ἄρτι; And they asked them saying,  "Is this your son, who you said that he was born blind?  How is he now able to see? 
20 ἀπεκρίθησαν οὖν οἱ γονεῖς αὐτοῦ καὶ εἶπαν· 
οἴδαμεν ὅτι οὗτός ἐστιν  υἱὸς ἡμῶν καὶ ὅτι τυφλὸς ἐγεννήθη· Therefore his parents answered and said, "We know that this is our son and that he was born blind.
21 πῶς δὲ νῦν βλέπει οὐκ οἴδαμεν τίς ἤνοιξεν αὐτοῦ 
τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς ἡμεῖς οὐκ οἴδαμεν· αὐτὸν ἐρωτήσατε
ἡλικίαν ἔχειαὐτὸς περὶ ἑαυτοῦ λαλήσει. And how he now sees we do not know, or why his eyes are open, we do not know. You ask him, he has full height. He will speak for himself. 
22 ταῦτα εἶπον οἱ γονεῖς αὐτοῦ ὅτι ἐφοβοῦντο 
τοὺς Ἰουδαίους· ἤδη γὰρ συνετέθειντο 
οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι ἵνα ἐάν τις αὐτὸν ὁμολογήσῃ 
Χριστόνἀποσυνάγωγος γένηται. These things his parents said because they feared the Jews. For already the jews agreed that if any one would confess the Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue
23 διὰ τοῦτο οἱ γονεῖς αὐτοῦ εἶπαν 
ὅτι ἡλικίαν ἔχειαὐτὸν ἐπερωτήσατε. This his parents said that he has age, ask him.
