John 5:29-47 Translation

Michelangelo's Moses
30. I am not able of myself to do anything, as I hear, I judge, and my judgement is righteous, because I do not desire my will but the will of the one who sent me. Jesus returns to the Ego since talking about the son since verse 19. Why does Jesus talk in the third person?
31. If I witness concerning myself, my witness is not true. Conditional clause 3rd class.
32. There is another witness concerning me, and I know because the witness is true which witness is concerning me.
33. You have sent to John and he has borne witness of he truth. Emphatic use of you with the perfect establishing a fact.
34. But I did not receive from man this witness, but all things I spoke in order that you might be saved. The emphatic Ego is in contrast with the you. Final hina clause showing purpose for why Jesus came, also personalizing his mission for them.
35. That one was the lamp which burned and shined, and you wanted to rejoice greatly for a short time in his light. John in prison Jesus uses past tense of eimi. Not the same lamp as in Rev. with the oil flowing to it that is lampas.
36. But I have the greater testimony than of John or John's, for the work which the Father given to me in order that I might complete, these the works which I am doing, testify concerning me that the Father has sent me. Predicate accusative (meizona) with ablative of comparison (Ioanou) after meizona.
37. And the Father who sent me, this one has testified concerning me. Neither have you heard his voice at any time nor have you seen his form. Use of the perfect as a permanent situation for not hearing and seeing. (Robertson).

38. And you do not have his word abiding in you, because the one he has sent, this one you did not believe.  Emphatic use of "this one".
39. Search the scriptures, because you think in them you have everlasting life, and these are the ones which testify of me. Emphatic plural - search - Robertson claims old verb can also be present indicative. Bernard indicates that when john uses dokeo it is a mistaken opinion. Indirect discourse?
40 And you do not desire to come to me in order to have life.
41. I do not receive the glory from man
42. But I know you that the love of God you do not have in you
43. I come in the name of my Father, and you do not receive me, if another one comes in his own name you receive that one.

Pfleiderer and Schmiedel hold that he refers to other false Messiahs, i.e. Barcochba ca. 134 a.d. later dating. But Robertson resist this arbitrary association.

44. How are you able to believe, receiving the glory of another and the glory which is from only God you do not desire.
45. You do not think that I will accuse you to the Father, Moses is the one who accuses you in whom you hope. Again dokeo and mistaken belief
46. For if you believed Moses, you believe me. because he wrote concerning me. Conditional clase unfulfilled. Imperfect both protasis and apodosis.
47. And if you do not believe what he wrote how will you believe my words?
