1. Thus as Jesus knew that the pharisees heard that he made and baptized more disciples than John,
2. (Although Jesus himself did not baptize but his disciples)
3. He left Judea and went again into Galilee.
4. And it was necessary for him to pass through Samaria
5. Thus he came again to a city of Samaria named Suchar (Sychar), Near to the field that Jacob gave to Joseph his son.
6. And there was there a spring of Jacob, which Jesus being tired from the journey sat down on the spring, it was the 6th hour.
7. A woman of Samaria, or a Samaritan woman came to draw water. Jesus said to her, give me to drink.
8. For his disciples had gone in order into town to buy food. Notice the number of ercogmi
9. Therefore the Samaritan woman said to him, "How is it you being a Jew ask to drink of me, being a Samaritan woman?" For the Jews had no dealings with the Samaritans.
10. Jesus answered and said to her, "If you knew the gift of God and who it is saying to you, 'give me a drink' you would have asked and he would have given to you living water."Here we have many things, an if 3rd condition, with gift as reference to 3:16. Also reference to living water revealing two things. 1. In John Jesus is very aware of his Messiahship and 2. the well is more like a cistern or a tube in the water table. The water percolates in (Robertson). Not to be compared especially in Jewish cultural with running spring water. This type of running water they actually called "living water". ALSO note that Jesus is the subject but where is the article?
11. She said (the woman) to him, sir (master, lord) neither do you have a bucket and the well is deep, from where do you have the living water?
12. You are not greater than our father Jacob? Who gave to us the well, and he drank out of it and his children and his cattle. Solid argument for veracity and truth. 1000 years plus practically back to Abraham.
13. Jesus answered and said to her, all who drank out of this water will thirst again.
14. but whoever may drink from the water which I will give them, will not thirst forever, but the water which I will give to him will become in him a spring of water leaping up into everlasting life.
15. The woman said to him, "Sir, give to me this water, in order that I may not come to this place to draw (water).
16. And he said to her, "Go call your husband and come to this place.
17. And the woman answered and said to him, " I do not have a husband." and Jesus said to her," you spoke will, that 'I do not have a husband".
18. For you have had five husbands and the who you now have is not your husband. This you have spoken truly.
19. The woman said to him, "Sir I see you are a prophet".
20. Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you say in Jerusalem that it is necessary to worship.
21. Jesus said to her, "believe me, woman, an hour comes when they will worship neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem.
22. You worship which you do not know, we worship which we know, since salvation is from the Jews.
23. But the hour comes and now is when the true worshiper will worship (to) the father in spirit and in truth, for also the father seeks (desires) this kind (such) to worship him.
24. God is a spirit, those who worship Him it is necessary to worship Him in spirit and in truth.
25. The woman said to Him, "I have known that the Messiah is coming, the one who is being called the Christ, when that one is come he will announce to us all things.
26. Jesus said to her, I am the one who is speaking to you.
27. And upon this his disciples came, and were astonished, (amazed) that he was speaking to a woman. Nevertheless no one said, " What do you desire or inquire?" or "Why do you speak with her?"
28. Therefore the woman left her water and went into the city and told the men.
29. Come now and see the man who said to me all things I did. Is this not the Christ?
30. They came out of the city and were coming to him.
31. In the meantime the disciples kept urging him saying,"Rabbi eat".
32. But he said to them, I have food which you do not know.
33. Therefore the disciples said to one another, "Someone did not bring him to eat?"
34. Jesus said to them, my food is that I might do the will of the one who sent me and finish or complete (make perfect, perfect) his work.
35. You do not say 4 months and then comes the harvest.. Behold I say to you lift up your eyes and see the land that it is white to harvest already.
36. The one who reaps receives a reward and gathers fruit into eternal life that the one who reaps rejoices together (with) and the one who sows.
37. For in this is true, one sows and another reaps.
38. I send you to reap where you have not toiled, another toiled and you enter into their toil.
39. And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, "He told me all that ever I did."
40. So when the Samaritans were come to him, they urged him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.
